About the organization
Founded in late 1989, the Center for the Study of Democracy (CSD) is a public policy institute fostering the reform process in Europe through impact on policy and civil society. CSD develops and advances cutting-edge policy solutions in the fields of energy and climate security, geoeconomics, anti-corruption and good governance, organized crime, radicalization, social inclusion, migration and human rights, building bridges between academia and policy-makers.
The role
CSD is looking for a Senior Researcher, experienced and passionate about energy and climate policies, looking to have a tangible impact on the European public discourse in these fields.
The successful candidate will work closely with the Energy and Climate Program Director to achieve policy priorities and deliver project objectives in the fields of energy and climate security, energy transition and governance; geoeconomics; green innovation and social acceptance of low-carbon technologies.
Responsibilities
- Independently developing analytical reports using the most appropriate research methodology; collecting and analyzing both quantitative and qualitative data; supporting the team and external partners in implementing selected methodologies.
- Presenting research results and specific policy recommendations in different formats, including long-form reports, policy briefs and public presentations.
- Managing and delivering projects, including defining objectives, providing methodological guidance, managing workflow and allocating tasks, ensuring the quality and timeliness of project deliverables.
- Leading fundraising efforts by identifying suitable funding streams, developing project concepts and full proposals and building partnerships with other think tanks and academic institution
- Pro-actively working on and promoting the CSD strategic engagement with European and transatlantic policy agenda .
Knowledge and skills
- Work experience: a minimum of 5 years in similar organizations with a minimum of 1 year working on energy and climate, or related topics.
- Research tools and methods: proficiency in Excel; data analysis tools; experience in qualitative research methods such as surveys and in-depth interviews.
- Writing: proven track record of published research papers, policy reports and articles (a writing sample should be provided as part of the application).
- Fundraising and project management: experience in managing research and/or consultancy projects .
- Communication: experience in communicating and delivering policy messages to different audiences – policy-makers, media, businesses.
- Education: Master’s or PhD degree in science, energy, economics, or another closely related field.
- Language: Excellent command of written and spoken English (Bulgarian is an advantage)

- Starting salary based on experience, and annual bonuses amounting to around 20% of monthly salaries based on performance.
